Did you defrost the turkey?

We brought in the New Year enjoying a wonderful evening with good friends and a deep fried turkey! Always fun. There was a moment of fear when the turkey came out of the fryer...kinda, dark. Jen said, "blackened." The man is VERY serious about his meat, and was not pleased. Needless to say, the next few minutes were very quiet. He proceeded to cut the bird, it only took moments for all to dig in. Yummy as ever! Phew, his rep was still in tact. We finished the evening with some Seinfeld Scene It, while the kids watched AFV. The Robben family gifted the group with this game for Christmas, fearing they would never win. (Karen wants Friends Scene It.) Well, the Robben's won our first match...hard to believe because Jen was answering questions, before they were asked! We'll get ya next time...

Now I have a PSA:

Turn off the flame BEFORE dunking the bird. My meat man has fried several turkeys. He has never turned off the flame, and never had a problem. Well, a few days before frying, the meat man did a little more research, kind of a refresher. He came across this flame tip. Let me just say, he has ALWAYS pre-measured and taken all the precautions when frying. For some resaon, on this day, even after measuring the grease, that pot boiled over. Still not sure why, but I know if the flame had been on, we may have looked like Howard...you know, the guy in the commercial that didn't have enough bars...
